This year Gaudete Sunday (Rose Sunday) falls on December 17th, the beginning of the Great O Antiphons which are sung nightly at Vespers during the last week of Advent. This final week of Advent forms a special time traditionally known as “Wisdomtide” or “Sapientiatide,” named after the antiphon “O Sapientia – O Wisdom that proceedest forth from the mouth of the Most High,” which is sung on the first day of the O Antiphons.
Join us for Solemn Vespers & Benediction at 6:00 p.m. for this double observance of Gaudete Sunday and O Sapientia. After the ceremony, there will be a festive Advent reception in the church hall, with traditional treats like wassail, mince pies and sugar plums. Try the rector’s almond cake with candied fruit!
Now in its second year running, the Wisdomtide party is now a beloved parish tradition that enables us to celebrate the joy of the season together, without impinging upon the upcoming celebration of Christmas.
