Storytelling: Your Secret Weapon to Stand Out in Job Interviews
Storytelling: Your Secret Weapon to Stand Out in Job Interviews
An SCSC Zoom Presentation
Thursday, May 19, 7:00 to 8:15 PM
You’ve visited your potential employer’s web site, analyzed the marketplace, researched your interviewer, and feel you have a good answer to the probable opening question: “Tell me about yourself.” According to The Wall Street Journal, your competition has done the same things and will have similar answers: Job history, summary of present situation, and education. All things the interviewer already knows.
The good news is that you can use this opportunity to take advantage of a skill we use on a daily basis and stand out in the interview process: Tell a good story.
Join NYC career coach and popular SCSC speaker Win Sheffield www.winsheffield.comto learn how the simplest work stories can engage your interviewer, highlight your experience, and separate you from the competition. In this talk you will learn how to:
  • Transition the interview from “interview mode” to “storytelling” mode.
  • Identify which stories–large and small–to tell. (What Hollywood can teach us about
telling work stories).
  • Prepare your story.
  • Prepare your answers before the interview, no matter what the question.
  • Deliver your message with clarity and impact.
RSVP required by May 16 to meeting chair Jim Wills at jcw@wca-search.com. You’ll receive a meeting link prior to the meeting.

The St. Catherine’s Support Circle was formed in 2009 to support people seeking jobs in a challenging economic environment. The group continues to encourage participation by both job seekers and those interested in providing their advice and support. To read about helpful information and recommended resources for job seekers, visit the parish web site www.stcath.org, first link to Community Life, and then link to the SCSC page.
